WHATS UP DOWNUNDER

"While the stock losses can’t be undone, the land will soon be blooming"Our mates at Aussie Destinations Unknown on why we ought to support our most gracious hostsWe’ve been watching with heavy hearts as outback Queensland continues to deal with the aftermath of devastating floods. These incredible communities have been hit hardβ€”roads damaged, properties flooded, and tourist seasons stalled before they could even begin. But here’s what we want you to know: they need us more than ever. For many outback towns, April marks the start of tourist season. It’s when caravans roll in, tents go up, and campfires flicker under those incredible starlit skies. Rodeos, festivals, bush poetry nights, sunset walks, birdwatching, and good old outback hospitalityβ€”this is what it’s all about. But right now? Bookings are being cancelled. Roads are still being repaired. And the images flooding the news and social media are scaring people awayβ€”some deciding to write off the whole season. But that’s exactly what these towns can’t afford.Last year, over a million tourists brought more than $800 million into the region according to Tourism and Events Queensland. That’s not just numbersβ€”that’s food on the table, fuel in the tanks, and school shoes for the kids. And while the stock losses can’t be undone, the land will soon be blooming. There will be a flush of green you’ll rarely get to see. The birdlife will return, the wildlife will thriveβ€”it’s a rare sight waiting to be experienced. So, if you’ve been planning a trip this yearβ€”don’t cancel. Delay if you need to. Check with the local councils and visitor info centres (not just what you see on social media!) and get the facts. And when the roads are open and it’s safe to travelβ€”go.Support the local bakeries, the fuel stops, the tiny museums, the caravan parksβ€”the small businesses. Every dollar helps. Every visitor matters. No matter where you are in Australia, there’s an outback town waiting to welcome you.Let’s show up for them like they show up for each other. Have you got an outback trip planned? Are you still going?PS. This pic was snapped in 2018 on our way out to Birdsville! Yep. Chris was pretty excited to see the red dirt πŸ˜… ... See MoreSee Less
