Overview
Wonderland RV tests the luxury six-berth 2311 Amaroo against Australia’s toughest terrain leveraging its unique jigsaw construction.
It features a stone sink, exquisite finishes and truly divided space for the kids, competing strongly against other premium, large-format family off-roaders like the Retreat Fraser 236R REV, Royal Flair Family Flair and Lotus Trooper.
But here, we see it tested propelling it into its own league.
Terrain Tested
| 🏜️ Sand Dunes | ⛰️ Rocky Climbs | 〰️ Corrugations | 💦 Water Crossings |
📍 Test Location: Loveday 4×4 Adventure Park, South Australia.
Is the Wonderland Amaroo 2311 right for me?
This caravan suits large families seeking sublime finishes and custom control for their camping adventures. They want an off-grid system tailored to their touring ambitions tested in tough terrain.

Layout, Comfort & Liveability – Will it fit my lifestyle?
This 7.3m floorplan delivers smart, divided living for a family of six.
Interior layout
The layout features a master bedroom up front, a central L-shape lounge and kitchen and a four-bunk bedroom forward of the full rear width bathroom.
The kitchen setup comprises a full height pantry, contoured timber tabletops and an exquisite stone sink that feels a cut above. Small details like ample 240V outlets and hooks at the door simplify family travels with a spacious L-shape lounge, which serves as the living and dining area.
Midship, kids can kick back in privacy with fans, individual drawer storage, bed heads, reading lights and USB points formulating a comfortable space at each bunk, completing the sleeping configuration.
Towards the back, the blend of easy to access open storage and cabinetry within the full rear width bathroom layout helps keep things organised and hasten trip preparation.
Comfort & practicality
Premium suede leather, timber waterfall benchtops and subtle panelling at the bedhead create a welcoming space, that’s protected with reverse cycle air-conditioning and a dust reduction system.

Build, Features & Off-Grid Performance – Can it handle my adventures?
Wonderland builds its van tough, adopting unique jigsaw construction withstand challenging conditions.
🏕️ 💨 Sand & Corrugations Test
Objective
The Sand Moguls rigorously assesses suspension travel, body flex, and stability at speed.
Observations
Deb McFarlane returns to Tough Tested for Wonderland tackling the Sand Moguls with the “huge, long” Wonderland Amaroo 2311 in tow.
The challenge ahead: sand and moguls testing the physics of the vehicle and van.
Deb adopted a “slow and steady pace,” correctly balancing the need for momentum to avoid stopping while managing the van’s significant size.
Sand & Corrugations Test, What We Found
---
Component Damage: No damage was reported; the van is “built tough”.
Caravan Reaction: The van “felt great,” with the driver barely noticing the van behind her.
Component Response: The van and car were momentarily “out of sync,” but the package handled the dynamics well as Deb “skipped straight over it”.
🌊 💦 Water Crossing Test
Objective
The water crossing evaluates water resistance, clearance and the operational integrity of electric brakes.
Observations
Deb pilots the “biggest van” on test, the Wonderland RV Amaroo 2311, through the water crossing.
This test evaluates water resistance and clearance. Deb’s strategy was simply to “get it done,” and she entered the water at speed without “backing off” after the previous obstacle.
Water Crossing Test, What we found
---
Component Damage: No damage reported.
Caravan Reaction: The “van absolutely handled it” despite the hard entry.
Component Response: The van’s seals and clearance were sufficient to handle the fast approach.
🪨 Moguls & Ruts Test
Objective
The Vantec Caravan Graveyard assesses departure angles, suspension behaviour, articulation, momentum and track adherence.
Observations
Deb guides the “big van” through the “tight space” of the Vantec Caravan Graveyard. Her approach was aggressive, with “no thought of slowing down”. She relies on the van’s promise that “if the car will go through so will the caravan”.
Moguls & Ruts Test, What we found:
---
Component Damage: No damage reported.
Caravan Reaction: The “big girl” got through the tight course successfully.
Component Response: The suspension and chassis handled the fast, aggressive approach without issue.
💨 🌀 Traction & Cornering through Bull Dust Test
Objective
The NCE Abyss rigorously assesses traction, stability, and handling in soft sand.
Observations
Driver Deb pilots the “biggest van we’ve had go through” the NCE Abyss and “wombat holes” with this “tight little track” testing traction in dust.
Deb attacked the course with “pace” and “determination,” noting she “didn’t even feel the van on the back”.

Traction & Cornering through Bull Dust Test, What we found
---
Component Damage: The “24ft” van sustained cosmetic damage. “There goes the step” and the “jerry can holders … got a hit”.
Caravan Reaction: The van “felt great” and successfully navigated the tight, dusty track despite its large size.
Component Response: The van’s structure held, but the “cosmetic stuff”, including the step and jerry can holders were vulnerable on the tight track.
Chassis & suspension
The Wonderland Amaroo 2200 maintained its integrity on our tough tracks thanks to Wonderland RV’s unique jigsaw construction, where CNC-cut panels are locked together rather than stapled. The Amaroo also features a tough DIBOND marine grade aluminium exterior and a single-piece, woven-fibre polypropylene honeycomb floor.
