Design RV keeps its dynamic, easy-clean interiors in shape with the side-mounted GUSTO DRS, now standard on the strapping Design RV Mica ACX V5.2+

Overview

Sporting a new layout, the Design RV Mica ACX V5.2+ is a premium value 21ft off-road van equipped with a spacious rear ensuite earning this model its PLUS.

It’s fitted with a side-mounted Gusto Dust Reduction System (DRS) standard complementing the modern easy-to-clean interiors out on the dusty track.

Proven Alpha Extreme suspension with dual shocks teams effectively with the Hitchmaster DO35 coupling over rough touring surfaces, riding on 6in ARV chassis.

Given the V5.2+’s 21ft layout, due to that bigger bathroom, attainable luxury is an increasingly important priority here competing against access off-road.

Is the Design RV ACX V5.2+ 21ft right for me?

The Design RV ACX V5.2+ suits couples seeking a spacious ensuite off-road van with a clever low-maintenance, timber-free structure and one-piece walls, roof and rear.

It’s supplied to us courtesy of Victorian RV Sales, airing on Camper Deals TV this November.

Equipped with a 600Ah lithium battery bank, it grants couples access to high-powered appliances off-the-grid without the weight burden of some next tier power systems.

Judicious travellers will also appreciate the elegant geometric designs accentuating open spaces within the premium ACX specification.

Layout, Comfort & Liveability – Will it fit my lifestyle?

Inside, the ACX V5.2+ balances its off-road credentials with a layout that champions comfort and practical, spacious living.

Interior Layout

Design RV ACX V5.2+ offers a generous full-width ensuite across the back as its bathroom layout. The central cafe dinette, serving as the living and dining area, sits opposite the kitchen setup, with the main bed, the sleeping configuration, spanning the front of the caravan.

Beautiful geometric cabinetry with concealed latches frames the cocoa-coloured bedhead seen here. Soft perimeter lighting and a matt one-piece ceiling further lifts the space.

Midship, we see timber-like tops on the galley kitchen, white frameless cabinetry, kickboard lighting and an elegant monochromatic pattern splashback.

Comfort & practicality

Accommodating height is a pain point for some travellers, and in this Design RV, a 6ft 6in interior and a full-size queen bed will address it for many. Nooks, targeted lighting and bedside tables create a relaxing space.

An inbuilt microwave, four-burner gas stove, electric grill and a 190L compressor fridge support effective cooking on and off-the-grid.

Opposite the kitchen, the plush lounge with lumbar support finished in an easy-to-clean microsuede and a handy tri-fold table, provide a comfortable spot to dine or relax.

While a surprisingly spacious full ensuite boasts a separate shower, a stylish black vessel sink and extensive modern cabinetry, including a large linen press for storage and a concealed washing machine.

Thoughtful inset cabinetry here and strategic lighting actively enhance its visual depth, creating a roomy and comfortable feel, particularly around the toilet.

Off-grid Climate Control & Airflow

Ducted heating beneath the bed facilitates great off-gridding. Notably, Design RV also fits Sirocco fans at the bed–a quiet statement in this quality fitout.

If that’s not enough, carefully considered air-conditioning is also available for short durations off-the-grid, thanks to an efficient Gree 3.5kW (av. 1.27kW draw) and a 3000W inverter; especially under optimal charging conditions via the 660W solar array.

Build, Features & Self-Sufficiency – Can it handle my adventures?

Chassis & suspension

In the ACX, Design RV pairs a 6in painted ARV chassis with Alpha Extreme suspension offering comfortable clearance suitable for maintained dirt road tracks. The strong aluminium frame and one-piece composite body provide a low-maintenance, timber-free structure.

It’s an accessible height for many travellers, made even easier with the internal fold-down staircase fitted with rails.

This foldaway staircase improves access to the caravan sitting high on mud terrain xxin tyres and a 6in chassis. Next to that, a DO35 coupling

External Comforts

Outdoors, this ACX features a checkerplate skirt, twin fold-down kitchen tables and toggled bug lighting beneath a generous awning.

Little touches like tie-down points on a firewood tray and deep open vessels for muddy gear meets modern caravan-camping ambitions without the excessive weight. There’s a handy tunnel boot up front here as well.

All up, a lovely, conservative rendition to modern trends, it will suit a lot of travellers.

Quietly confident, the Design RV shod in sturdy checkerplate features a handy toolbox up front with a firewood tray, slide-out and deep vessels for greater strength. Note the two picnic tables and tunnel boot.

Verdict – Which option is best for me?

The Design RV ACX V5.2+ is a compelling off-road van for couples, built with a timber-free structure and Alpha Extreme suspension. It clearly prioritises comfort with a spacious rear ensuite, compromising agility with its 21ft length.

Solar-savvy, the standard side-mounted Gusto DRS frees up roof space for a 660W solar array. This supports a robust 600Ah lithium system for quality off-grid living, all within a 2833kg tare.
