Washing is never ending on the road. Fewer clothes means washing more often. When you wash you need to dry. We were at an Option RV get together in Laidley, Qld, and I wandered around to see the washing line ideas. Here are some of my favourites.
Tip #1 – Rotary Clothes Line
You want to use the small rotary line but it keeps falling over? How about fixing a fishing rod holder to the A frame to take the line, without the base? Make sure you put the fishing rod holder far enough away from the van so it can still go around.

Tip #2 – Something for a Coat Hanger
Using a coat hanger saves a lot of room on a washing line, but finding somewhere to hang it without putting a physical line up isn’t easy. This idea is so simple it makes you wonder why you didn’t think of it yourself. Attach hooks to a removable metal strip, duct tape that to a curved awning beam (that will also help with rain run off on the awning), and there you have it. Somewhere to hang your clothes on coat hangers.

Tip #3 – A Triple Washing Line, Light and Easy
The biggest part to this washing mod is making the ends. They need to be made strong with eyelets for the lines, and Velcro to attach top and bottom. Once you have one for each end, tie your washing lines in place and leave them there. It’s easy to put this up and the strength of the sewing and Velcro will take the weight of your washing. When you don’t want it up, simply take it down, roll it up and store it.
Tip #4 – An External Triple Washing Line
Most of the washing lines I saw were under the awning, but not all. I’m not a metal worker so I won’t even begin to explain how this one is made. But, if you have the skills, this is a three-line washing line that sits outside the awning for full sun drying.
