    Charleville Charms – A Caravanner’s Foodie Adventure

Time to break Cobb: a caravan foodie adventure in Charleville with new-found friends, says fellow ‘stagecoach driver’ Lady Settledown at The Evening Star’s iconic ‘Stables’—Words Lady Settledown

Dearest Genteel Readers, I bring forth news from Charleville where, as the weather has cooled to almost tolerable, the stagecoach parks and commons are opening up again, as the long sleepy summer has been cast aside and autumn, with its warm days and cooler evenings has poked its parasol around the door.

A Warm Welcome at The Evening Star

Recently, after a long day in the stagecoach passing through the hamlets of Dalby and Roma, I pulled up the horses at “The Evening Star” on Adavale Road, just outside of Charleville.

It was 4pm precisely, and, as the hour of happy had commenced, I did make haste to the onsite frothy hops garden to partake of a refreshing beverage, then reclined my half acre in a comfortable lounge beside the resident Basset Hound.

Presently a morsel of warm damper, smeared with butter and syrup that is golden was placed before me, and as dusk fell, I and my new friends gathered around the campfire, where under a star filled sky, we shared stories of our stagecoach adventures.

    Discovering Charleville’s Local Tastes

The next morning I made my way into the Town and unearthed some hidden gems, and I would like to present to you, my dearest gentle readers, a curated selection of goods—a veritable caravanner’s foodie guide to Charleville—that are a worthy addition to your travelling store cupboards and ice boxes.

Dunnes Meats on Wills Street had available for purchase Worcestershire and black pepper sausages which I grilled to perfection on the Andrew Lloyd and enjoyed on soft white bread with sauce rouge.

Dunnes Meats an iconic stop for the caravan foodie hitting Charleville’s trails!

No Charleville caravan foodie guide is complete without mentioning Dunnes Meats. Here a server shows us a fine cuts including Cracked Pepper & Worchestershire snags, personally approved by Lady Settledown

The bread in question was procured from Heinemann’s Country Bakery which also had custard tarts with no soggy bottoms and freshly made salads in tubs.

Right next door to the bakery is Made in Murweh Arts & Crafts and my flabbers were gasted when I tried the bread and butter pickles in a jar handmade by Charleville local Fay followed by a cake of fruit studded with walnuts and cherries.

A Generous Feast at The Lucky Elephant

After a long day discovering the delights of Charleville I enjoyed an evening repast at “The Lucky Elephant“–where you may bring your own ratafia–dining on rolls of spring, followed by a dish of plucked fowl with cashew nuts stir fried.

This meal was a story in itself and the serving so generous it was also enjoyed for luncheon the next day.
