Stockholm, Sweden – 5 March 2026

Dometic has received three iF DESIGN AWARD 2026 honours for new portable cooling products, recognising design and engineering across its latest cooler collections.

The awards were announced on 5 March 2026, with Dometic recognised in the Product Design – Sports/Outdoors category for three cooler systems: the Unrestricted Cooler Collection, Recon Hardside Cooler Collection, and Recon Softside Cooler Collection. The international iF DESIGN AWARD program evaluates products based on design, innovation, usability, and sustainability.

For travellers and campers, the recognition highlights new cooling solutions focused on lighter materials, modular storage systems, and portability.

Awarded Products

Unrestricted Cooler Collection

The Unrestricted Cooler Collection was recognised for its lightweight soft-cooler design built for everyday portability. The range includes a backpack, tote and duffel-style cooler, designed to function both as a cooler and an everyday carry bag.

According to the award listing, the range focuses on modular design and lightweight construction intended for urban and outdoor use.

Recon Hardside Cooler Collection

Dometic’s Recon Hardside Cooler Collection was recognised for its modular, stackable design and reduced weight compared with traditional rotomoulded coolers.

The range is described as around 30 percent lighter than conventional hard coolers and includes several functional features such as:

  • detachable dual-hinge lids
  • integrated water-dispensing spigots
  • magnetic carry handles
  • non-skid feet for stability

These features are intended to improve storage efficiency and usability during outdoor trips.

Recon Softside Cooler Collection

The Recon Softside Cooler Collection, including the Recon ZL Soft Cooler, was also recognised in the awards.

The soft cooler platform offers a 21-litre capacity and a flexible design aimed at adaptable packing and gear integration for outdoor use.

About the iF DESIGN AWARD

The iF DESIGN AWARD, run by the iF International Forum Design in Germany, is one of the world’s longest-running product design competitions. The program evaluates products across multiple categories including consumer goods, architecture, and digital design.

Products are assessed by an international jury on criteria including functionality, innovation, sustainability, and form.

What Travellers Should Know

Portable cooling gear remains one of the most widely used product categories for campers, caravanners and 4WD travellers. Advances in materials and weight reduction can affect how easily equipment can be carried, stored in vehicles, or packed into touring setups.

While design awards focus primarily on product design and engineering, they do not necessarily reflect real-world performance in touring conditions.

The newly recognised Dometic cooler ranges are expected to appear through outdoor and camping retailers globally.

Recent Dometic cooling products have also received international recognition. The company’s CFX5 portable fridge series won an ISPO Award in 2025, recognising improvements in thermal efficiency and off-grid power management for camping and touring.

About Dometic

The company employs around 7,000 people worldwide, sells products in more than 100 countries, and reported SEK 21 billion (approximately USD 2.3 billion) in net sales in 2025. It is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.
