Thetford Eco Separation Toilet Combines Composting Smarts with Off-Grid Freedom

Ryan Jamieson for Thetford joins Warren Parrot at our inaugural Aussie Caravan Street to discuss Thetford’s clever new waterless Eco Separation Toilet, which combines composting smarts with decades of RV toilet design, making it easier to manage off-the-grid.

  • External access keeps emptying clean.
  • No water, no chemicals needed.
  • Separates liquid and solid waste.
  • Avoids caravan dump sites entirely.

Hygienic External Cassette Access

Familiar with the needs of RV travel, Thetford designed the Eco Separation Toilet’s urine and compost receptacles to slide from the outside of the van, much like a standard cassette toilet. As a result, travellers encounter fewer odours within the van.

Efficiently Separate Liquid and Solid Waste

The unit features a large drop opening to avoid splashing, making it easier to use and clean. To activate, gently push the handle to open the drop chute.

Conserve Water with a Chemical-Free System

The Eco Separation Toilet requires no water–or chemicals–for flushing. Not only do you save on the cost of chemicals but the hassle of frequently refilling your tank. Just a steady supply of liners and sawdust or hemp to dry and break down solids.

Dispose of Waste Without Needing Dump Sites

Moreover, you no longer require formal caravan dump sites for emptying the solid waste tank. Once the contents are full, simply tie up the bag and dispose of the dried waste quickly and easily in any standard domestic waste bin.
