A new travel voucher could take $500 off the accommodation bill for your next Red Centre road trip-but caravanners will need to move quickly.
Tourism Central Australia has opened applications for 600 Red Centre Drive Vouchers, each worth $500 towards eligible accommodation across Central Australia.
Unlike a prize draw, the vouchers will be allocated to the first 600 eligible applicants in the order applications are received. That makes this an opportunity worth acting on now rather than leaving until the closing date.
Applications opened on 5 September and will remain open until 30 September 2026.
Who can apply for the $500 voucher?
The voucher program is open to Australian residents aged 18 or over who live outside the Northern Territory.
Applicants must hold a current Australian driver’s licence showing a residential address outside the NT. Only one application is permitted per person and per household.
Northern Territory residents are not eligible for the first round.
Applicants do not need to have their entire road trip booked before applying. Successful recipients will be contacted by email by 5 October 2026.
The main eligibility requirements are:
- You must be an Australian resident aged 18 or over
- You must live outside the Northern Territory
- You must hold a current Australian driver’s licence
- Only one person from each household can apply
- You must use the official Tourism Central Australia Application Form
Tourism Central Australia may request proof of eligibility, including a copy of the applicant’s driver’s licence.
What can the voucher be used for?
The $500 voucher can be used towards new accommodation bookings with participating operators across the Red Centre and Barkly regions.
Importantly for caravanners and campers, eligible accommodation is not limited to hotels and resorts. The program includes participating:
- Caravan parks
- Campgrounds
- Wayside inns
- Roadhouses
The voucher cannot be applied to an existing reservation. Once received, the booking must be made through the Tourism Central Australia website or through a Visitor Information Centre in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek or Yulara.
Bookings made directly with an accommodation operator will not qualify for the voucher.
The important dates
Applications close at 11:59pm ACST on 30 September 2026.
Successful Round 1 applicants will receive their voucher by email on 5 October. They must make and redeem their eligible accommodation booking by 20 January 2027, with travel completed by 30 June 2027.
That gives successful travellers time to plan a late-2026 journey or travel during the first half of 2027.
Any vouchers not used by the Round 1 booking deadline will be cancelled and offered to eligible applicants on the waitlist. Those selected for a second round are expected to be notified by 1 February 2027.
There is one condition worth understanding
The full $500 voucher must be used in a single transaction.
If your eligible accommodation booking costs less than $500, the remaining value will be forfeited. It cannot be carried over to another stay, exchanged for cash or refunded.
For example, if your booking costs $420, the unused $80 will be lost. Travellers will therefore get the greatest value by making an eligible booking worth at least $500.
The voucher covers accommodation only. Recipients remain responsible for fuel, food, attractions and the cost of travelling to and from Central Australia.
Bookings are also subject to availability and the individual conditions of participating accommodation operators.
Why is the government offering the vouchers?
The Red Centre Drive Voucher campaign is part of the Australian Government’s $5 million Red Centre Marketing Boost.
The program is intended to encourage more interstate Australians to visit Central Australia, stay longer and support regional tourism businesses.
The broader investment includes tourism development funding and support for local operators, with self-drive travellers seen as particularly valuable because their spending reaches caravan parks, roadhouses, attractions, hospitality businesses and smaller communities along the route.
For caravanners, it is also a welcome incentive at a time when fuel, food and accommodation costs can quickly add up across a long-distance journey.
What could a Red Centre road trip include?
A trip through Central Australia can be built around much more than a single destination.

Travellers planning to tow through remote areas should check road conditions, fuel availability, towing suitability and permit requirements before setting out.
Some routes and attractions may require park passes or separate permits. Travellers should also confirm whether their chosen roads are suitable for conventional caravans, off-road vans or four-wheel-drive vehicles.
Is it a competition?
No. The vouchers are not awarded through a random draw.
Eligible applications will be ranked according to the time they were received. The first 600 eligible applicants will receive a Round 1 voucher, while remaining eligible applicants will be placed on a waitlist.
Applications remain open until 30 September even if more than 600 people apply, so it may still be worth submitting an application for a possible Round 2 allocation.

You will need to provide your name, email address, mobile number and postcode. You must also declare that you hold an eligible Australian driver’s licence and that nobody else in your household has applied.
Because the vouchers are first come, first served, eligible travellers considering a Red Centre journey should apply as soon as possible.
A $500 voucher may not cover the entire cost of reaching Australia’s heart—but it could pay for several nights along the way and make that long-planned road trip considerably easier to put into motion.
