November 2025 – The Australian Caravan Club (ACC) has officially declared the National Muster in Charleville an absolute success, with more than 204 intrepid showgoers camping up in 120+ caravans overtaking the Charleville Showgrounds.

Thankfully, according to Australian Caravan Club (ACC) members on the ground, the Charleville community welcomed the onslaught with open arms.

“The people in the street all knew who we are and they are so friendly and welcoming,” says an ACC member in this special ACC video report.

Spirits were high during the 10-day event in October, with Australian Caravan Club members socialising, taking tours and even pitching in to help each other secure their awnings and annexes ahead of a big storm.

Between card games, pickleball friendlies and extended happy hours, Australian Caravan Club members toured Charleville in droves.

According to Graeme Humphreys, this ACC National Muster in Charleville was a particularly special trip for those members who’d never visited Charleville before.

The Charleville Bilby Experience

Among the highlights, the Charleville Bilby Experience, where keepers showcased these national treasures in special nocturnal housing while sharing its plight for survival.

“We saw the bilbies years ago in the national park at night. So, this was a whole new experience today and we thoroughly enjoyed it,” says one ACC member.

Uncovering History at the WWII Secret Base

The World War II Secret Base and its interactive exhibit charting the daily struggles of more than 3,500 stationed US Army Air Force personnel, was another absolute hit.

“I didn’t know such a thing existed at the secret mission,” an ACC member explained.

“Just the sheer logistics of it. The amount of bitumen that they put down, the number of buildings, the number of servicemen they had working there,” said another.

A Taste of the Outback at The Local Date Farm

Meanwhile, the family-run Outback Date Farm surprised and delighted foodie fans en masse, with tastings, demonstrations and more.

“Just to find out how they process the dates and having some tastings was really nice especially the liqueur. That was yummy,” says an unnamed ACC member.

Stargazing at the Famous Cosmos Centre

The Cosmos Centre, meanwhile, offered muster guests planetarium film showings and specialised sun viewing during the day, charting the outback sky after dark.

“We’ve been there twice; we’ve got a third time tomorrow,” one member reported.

“We’ve been to several Cosmos centres … I thought this was up there, it was as good as anything we’ve seen before,” another said.

Exploring the Historic Corones Hotel

The Corones Hotel also offered tours, sharing the remarkable story of its founder, Harry Corones and the many celebrated guests who passed through its doors.

“It’s just a fantastic place,” says an unnamed ACC member.

Why the Muster Proves Charleville is a Top Caravan Destination

Events like the Australian Caravan Club National Muster really are excellent opportunities for regional tourism destinations like Charleville to shine.

Indeed, with the showgrounds full, demand for tours was so high local tourism operators had to double the number of people they’d normally take on tours.

Local businesses like the Charleville RSL, Charleville Fishing Hunting & Camping happily joined forces with the Australian Caravan Club to raise funds for a worthy cause, donating prizes to help raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Life at the Muster: Socialising at the Showgrounds

Between relaxing and attending tours, muster goers took the opportunity to:

Socialise at happy hour.

Play games like cards and pickleball.

Flex the grey matter at group trivia night.

Enjoy a group dinner with a musician and dancing.

Catch up with old friends and meeting new ones from different parts of Australia.
