A Historic Experience Underground
A trip to the Seppelt Cellars is more than just a cellar door experience. This historic building, filled with very old bottles of Seppelt wine, is so interesting to see – and it’s all underground.
Excavations began in 1868 by out-of-work gold miners. The labyrinth of tunnels is the largest underground cellar in the Southern Hemisphere. They are known as The Drives – and they took more than 60 years to dig and run over three kilometres, holding an incredible three million bottles of wine.

The Seppelt Experience
Bruce Ahchow took our team on an extensive, informative, and totally fascinating tour of this wonderful winery. Tours operate daily, and there is a beautiful underground dining space if you want to have the full Seppelt experience.
Diving Deep into Seppelt History
Influencers Ron and Di and Matt and Paula from Everything Caravan and Camping took off for the winery. Only once you get there do you realise the extent of this amazing building and how most of what goes on there is underground.
“You’re walking into real history here.”
– Bruce Ahchow, Seppelt Great Western.
