Overview – Greenup Meeting Place, QLD
Words and Photography by Alison Huth
We were on the road, with still some distance to go before our overnight stop and the lunch hunger button rang, loud and clear. Well, when that rings you find somewhere to stop and either dig into the food in your van or enjoy someone else’s cooking. We were very close to the Greenup Meeting Place and decided that we would stop there for lunch.

Hidden Treasures
We pulled in off the road and had plenty of room to park the car and van. The first view you get of the Meeting Place isn’t going to get you cooing and ahhing at the splendour of it. But don’t despair — all you have to do is go into the area and then you can oooo and ahhh to your heart’s content.
Toasties & Tarts
It couldn’t be more different and enticing. There’s something to look at just about everywhere you look. Plus, the food was delicious. Peter chose a toasted ham sandwich which looked really good. I have a bit of a sweet tooth, so went straight to dessert and had a lemon tart with cream. Not only did mine look good but it tasted great.
Unpowered Campsites
We went for a little walk around and checked out the amenities. These are lovely — which is handy because you can camp there too on their unpowered sites. If you want on-site accommodation, the old Greenup School has been converted into family rooms and a dormitory. Plus there’s a little shop with a collection of this and that, all sorts of lovely things. It’s just one of those lovely places that we have kept on our ‘must-see’ list, because it’s really worth going back again, again and then again!
