This part of the coast is much more gentrified now compared to when my friends and I used to go surfing down there in the ’80s! Back then, all we’d worry about was what direction the winds were blowing and if there was a swell. Now, tree surfing is about as far as I would go, and I’m more likely looking for the winds to blow me towards a café with delicious local produce.
The Only Delicious Way to End a Day is at The Last One Inn
Before leaving Anglesea, we stopped for a meal at The Last One Inn, a chic, beach-style shack located right on the Great Ocean Road overlooking the Anglesea River. The menu features modern Australian cuisine with a South American twist, reflecting chef Jorge Guerrero’s Argentinian background. There’s a focus on cooking over fire, a 4 pm daily happy hour, and music on weekends, giving this place a very friendly vibe.

An Iconic Dream Come True for 90s Kids at the Split Point Lighthouse
This isn’t just any lighthouse; the Split Point Lighthouse in Aireys Inlet is the one from the classic Aussie TV show Around the Twist! It was transported piece by piece from the UK in an early version of a flat pack, painstakingly assembled, and has been operational ever since. Our wonderful guide, Lou Caithness, took us up the 136 steps and made the visit truly interesting and informative with her knowledge of the local maritime history. A visit here will hold a lot of interest for people of many ages.

Find an Exhilarating Adrenaline Rush at Live Wire Park
If you’re brave enough, you’re about to have the time of your life! Located less than a kilometre from Lorne’s beachfront near the beautiful Erskine Falls, Live Wire Park is Australia’s first completely off-grid elevated adventure park. We sent some of our crew to test out the obstacle courses, rock climbing walls, and the 525-metre-long, 360-degree adrenaline-pumping zipline, and I don’t think there was a disappointed face among them when it was over.
