Tathra, a coastal town surrounded by natural beauty

Our Second stop on the Go Make Some memories Convoy for Charity is Tathra, a coastal town surrounded by natural beauty with Mimosa Rocks National Park to the north, and Bournda National Park to the south.

Our home in Tathra was the Tathra Beachside. Tathra Beachside is a resort style holiday park with everything you could ever want, for any type of holiday you want to have. Aside from accomodation that ranges from campsites to Villas to pet friendly cottages, the facilities will blow you away. The first thing you notice when arriving at this Tathra Beachside is the waterpark, yes the waterpark and its massive. Other facilities include a swimming pool, amazing playground and a camp kitchen set up for everything from small BBQs to happy hour concerts. This place was especially fun for us because the owner of the Tathra Beachside was an old friend of the show, Frankie J Holden.

We arrived in Tathra early, and after everyone set up their caravans our convoyers decided to head off to the Bega Cheese Heritage Centre. The Heritage Centre offered our convoyers the chance to try their world famous cheese and to learn about the history of dairying and Bega Cheese in the Bega Valley. Everyone left satisfied with bags full of the famous cheese.

After getting back from the Heritage Centre I was lucky enough to get a tour of the Kokoda Caravans Veteran XLI. Steve and Laurie explained why the dura gal chassis and a semi off-road suspension that is specifically engineered for rugged journeys made this caravan unique. This Caravan was built with style in mind, the innovative interior design makes this van modern, fresh and smart. Everything in this van has been designed to maximise space and comfort.

The next morning some of our convoyers set off on a bike ride with Tathra Beach and Bike. There are countless mountain bike trails in and around Tathra, many of which the staff at Tathta Beach and Bike have helped to build and maintain. Some of these trails were destroyed earlier this year by the devastating fires that came through the town and have only just been restored thanks to the great work of the workers here and many volunteers. While riding along the trails it was abundantly clear how much care has gone into each and every trail. This was a fantastic way to see another side of Tathra, and get in a good workout.

While some went bike riding inland, the others set off for the coast to the Tathra Wharf Museum. Tathra Wharf has beautiful views and has a place in history, the wharf is the only remaining timber deep-water wharf on the East Coast of Australia.

After everyone got back from bike riding and the wharf it was time to go town fundraising. The cast and crew put on their Cure for brain Cancer Foundation purple tops, pins and wrist bands and set off. Tathra really showed their support for this charity and were very generous with their donations, local businesses went out of their way to give what they could.

Everyone got back to the holiday park and it was straight into setting up for Happy Hour. This Happy Hour was very special as Frankie J Holden and his band kicked off the night and played some of the classics. As Fireman Ron performed the convoyers opened up their 8 best of the Best vans for display, and people were excited to be able to walk through them and ask questions. Prousty followed with his bush poetry and had us all laughing within minutes. It was a major crowd and after we gave away some great prizes dontated from Camec, Caravan RV Camping, Award RV, Maywest caravans, Golden Circle, clearview, Trojan Parts and De Fibs R Us. Frankie J Holden and his band came back on and played a few more songs with Fireman Ron and Prousty. As the night came to a close the Dyson children went around to all the children and handed out Golden Circle  juice boxes, a wonderful end to a wonderful night.

The next morning the convoyers, cast and crew packed up and began the journey to our next stop, Bermagui.
