The Yamaha brand and its iconic tuning fork logo needs no introduction. First established in 1887 as a manufacturer of piano and reed organs, it has evolved and diversified to include products such as musical instruments, semiconductors, vehicles, power generation, and many others.

The Yamaha Motor Company was formed in 1955 and quickly became well known in the motorsports and high-performance industries.

In 1973, Yamaha released its first generator, the ET1200 which is the predecessor of subsequent portable generators by the company.

To serve the increasingly large market in Australia, Yamaha Motor Australia was incorporated in 1983. Further diversification of business interests saw them acquiring several marine-related businesses.
