Try your luck and fossick (Noodle) for your own opal, visit underground homes and churches, visit the stunning Breakaways and enjoy the magnificent views at sunset, the dingo fence, the longest dog fence in the world, Moon Plains and Mica Fields where many movies have been filmed including Mad Max, Pitch Black and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert or take a tour of the Painted Desert, Coober Pedy is also the Gateway to Oodnadatta and William Creek and Lake Eyre.
Coober Pedy also hosts the annual Opal Festival and the Great Breakaways Bolt, a 35km walk, run, ride from the Breakaways into Coober Pedy. They also boast one of only two remaining Drive-In Theatres in South Australia, Coober Pedy’s operates every second Saturday night most of the year.
